SASS
has a Membership drawn from across the Christian denominations
mainly in Sydney but also throughout NSW. Formed when a small
group of Anglican Stamp Collectors met in December 1972, the society
has steadily grown, drawing members from many denominations and
continues to meet six
times annually.
With a very stable membership of 50 in 2006, and
the average meeting attendance's of about 32, the members have
developed close friendships and enjoy each others company on each
meeting day and as they call on each other between meetings.
Membership is open to Stamp Collectors who are members
of a Christian Church. Membership is applied for by filling in
the application form available at meetings. Financial membership
entitles a member to receive 6 copies of "Nu-Issue"
- the SASS Newsletter, and to have a say and vote in the annual
elections. Annual subscription is $10.00.
SASS is "managed" by a committee consisting
of President, two Vice Presidents, Treasurer and Secretary. Each
of these positions being elected annually.
From its inception the society has had the support
for Missions and Missionaries as one of its prime objectives.
The society directly supports the Church
Missionary Society by maintaining stockbooks, sorting
vast quantities of donated stamps, and assisting in the sale of
these stamps. Many thousands of dollars have been raised for this
mission society alone over the 30 years by the enjoyable work
by the membership.
SASS is affiliated with PHILAS
